Shannon McCarthy
Psychotherapist/Counsellor
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor working online and face-to-face. The way I work focuses on supporting each client to take ownership of your story and address the difficulties and challenges that you may be experiencing, be they past or present. This allows for understanding, healing, self-development, personal growth and ultimately to affect positive and lasting change.
Together with creating a warm, non-judgemental space to explore any issues, the client-therapist relationship is key to my work. As I am able to draw on different therapeutic models such as Person-centred therapy, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Neuropsychology and CBT amongst others, my approach is tailored to each client as I believe each person is individual with a unique history.
At Elephant Path Wellbeing, I provide psychotherapy and counselling services tailored to your needs. My focus is on individual therapy that enables emotional resilience and mental clarity while empowering clients through compassionate guidance and effective techniques.
Background
My own personal experience of psychotherapy and counselling began in my mid-twenties where I found a space to express myself, understand and then heal from past traumas and embark on a journey of profound self-discovery. As a result of this life-changing experience I decided to train as a psychotherapist to help other people experience their own version of this.
I have been in private practice since 2011 working in person, online and telephonically. My in-person practice is based in Ramsey, Huntingdon but has previously been based in London and Cambridge. I work with individuals from across the UK and internationally, using online platforms. In addition to my private practice, I have also worked as an honourary counsellor for MIND in Cambridgeshire.
I completed my Psychotherapy training with at Spectrum (UKCP Organisational Member) in North London from 2006-2011. I continue my professional development on an ongoing basis to increase my knowledge and skills, as well as keep abreast of changes within the therapeutic and counselling arena.
I have regular supervision with a BACP registered Psychotherapist. I am a accredited registered member of the National Society of Counselling and Psychotherapy (NCPS) and abide by their code of ethics.
My working background includes business relationship management and local government. I am also a wife and mother to a lively and wonderful pre-teen who helps me appreciate each day and brings new perspective to my therapeutic work.
